Description
"The emperor of the despondent kingdom
so towered from the ice, up from midchest,
that I match better with a giant's breadth
than giants match the measure of his arms;:
now you can gauge the size of all of him
if it is in proportion to such parts.
If he was once as handsome as he now
is ugly and, despite that, raised his brows
against his Maker, one can understand
how every sorrow has its source in him!"
-Dante's Inferno
"The end comes not when Hell freezes over, but when it thaws..."
-Saying overheard in the City of Dis.
While he prefers to be thought of as the beautiful Lucifer, nekorin-gatacat.deviantart.com… that appearance is only an illusion. Since being cast from Heaven, God's favorite has warped into a twisted, mindless monster trapped in Hell's icy heart, Cocytus. His three faces, a grotesque parody of the Holy Trinity, constantly gnaw on the three worst traitors in history, Judas, Brutus, and Cassius. (Rumor has it Benedict Arnold is lined up as a replacement should anything happen to the latter two.)
My conception of Satan, based on his appearance in Dante's Inferno. It's not a perfectly faithful rendering-I disliked the wings being under the chins, and I had a strong reason for switching the position of the black and red faces. Also, I drew his face as night black, and not "black, like those from the Nile," because, really Dante? Why write that?!
The white wound in his side refers to a battle between Lucifer and St. Michael in Paradise Lost.
It is perhaps, not too late to make some changes if the work is found lacking. This image is very different than what's usual for me.

For a moment I thought you were going to have Lucifer and Satan as different characters. So if Cocytus does thaw then would Satan just destroy everything in sight, or would his senses return? Good job on making the faces distinct and the tears in the wings.
