Description

Mistress Relivar: "I cannot express how much I hate you! 'People like me' you keep saying! But you… So called hero!  “Life is unfair,” you say. As if celebrating it. Reveling in it. That’s what you claim to protect, when it’s what you should be fighting against! The reason this world is so fucked up… Is because of people like you! You! you! you! you! you! you!!!"

Lady Relivar: "
Will you declare war on all suffering next? Will you put an end to death? Then be ready, for the day your sun collapses and makes your world unlivable. Prepare yourselves for the day when even this universe will cave in. Live till then, and understand the true futility of existence when you're forced to watch your beloved universe decay around you. Will you stand on humanity's behalf, and fight even that?!"

Complete Relivar: "Even if you can understand me, it's much too late now. I've searched everywhere, across dimensions... For an answer that would redeem this world, and found only nothingness. This world is broken. And nothing will make it all right."

Relivar Aranthar is a sorceress who was born on another world called Viscereigne. The King and nobles of Viscereigne had knowledge of other worlds, and Relivar enjoyed such imported luxuries as comic books and games. However, this knowledge was strictly controlled by the nobility, and the planet stayed in the dark ages.

Young Relivar was mentally unstable, and her personality split down the middle into two personas. The family's servants gave them each different titles to tell them apart. The calm, elegant, studious half (right, hair down) was called Lady, and the loud, obsessive, fangirlish half (left, twin-tails) was called Mistress. Both halves excelled at their magic lessons from their older half-brother Zenizar, who taught Relivar never to hurt anyone with her magic, a lesson she took to heart.

One day, Zenizar announced he would be leaving for a long time, without giving any reason, and told Relivar to take care of their estate and younger brother, Shexilar. When they were left alone, vandals, jealous of the nobility's monopoly on knowledge, attacked their home.

Relivar hid her brother, but was nearly struck down by one of the vandals, and accidentally killed him in self-defense with her magic, which frightened the others away. Distraught at breaking her word, she fled the estate to seek Zenizar. But upon leaving, she was horrified to see the landscape in flames... An army was devastating the country, and she soon learned that the leader was her brother, who had overthrown the planet, renaming it Aranthar.

Disgusted at his hypocrisy, she found a spell that would split her personalities into two separate bodies, and together they studied magic at an alarming rate, preparing to confront Zenizar. When at last the two fought, Zenizar won by sealing both halves inside a giant crystal. Zenizar feared Relivar's new power, and reluctantly hid the crystal inside an asteroid cave.

For over a decade, she remained there, but she was quite conscious. With her magic, she was able to astral project, and saw on many planets a great deal of death, destruction, and despair on a grand scale. When she thought of the emptiness of the ideals she was raised on, she became convinced that happiness was only a fleeting illusion, and began to regret having been born. She came to believe that to exist at all was a curse.

One day, Relivar was freed from the asteroid by Hiroshi and Haruhi, two stars who had taken on human form as the result of Zenizar's attempt to create ideal children through magic. She set upon a new agenda: to first get revenge on her brother, and then to destroy everything in existence, and finally herself.

For a long time, Relivar plotted scheme after scheme for the destruction of reality, but each scheme was easily thwarted due to her overt methods. Unbeknownst even to her, each plot was really a means of seeking attention; hoping that some hero would come along and refute her nihilistic rants with a justification for life that would satisfy her. Instead, time and time again she was told: "the reason this world is so awful is because of people like you."

Until now, she could afford so many failures because the death of one of her halves would simply cause the reunion of her complete form. But since Hiroshi revealed to her the truth behind her self-deluding motivations, she has given up looking for a reason to live, and is now ready to risk death in an all-or-nothing final battle with existence.

A fun antagonist to have. I like the contrast between Lady and Mistress.
